montaigne on experience

God shows mercy to those from whom he takes away life a little at a time: that is the sole advantage of growing old; the last death which you die will be all the less total and painful: it will only be killing off half a man, or a quarter…Everywhere death intermingles and merges with our life: our decline anticipates its hour and even forces itself upon our very progress.

We’re going to destroy ourselves as a species if we lose the capacity to imagine the suffering of others. One way to (avoid) do(ing) this – the best way – is via our imaginations, via storytelling.

faith . . .

Living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what next or how.  The moment you know how, you begin to die a little.  The artist never entirely knows.  We guess.  We may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark.

NPR did a thang on coincidences last weekend.  I had two this week, so thought i'd share them:

1)  I ran into a guy at the grocery who i'd only met once before, just a few days prior.

2)  On the way to the grocery, I was behind a very slow-moving vehicle.  It turned off into an apartment complex on the way.  coming home from the grocery, the very same vehicle pulled out of the apartment complex in front of me.  :S

What is the strangest coincidence you ever experienced?

so delicious: dairy-free coconut creamer from Fred Meyers – *update

This is mold, folks – 5 days PRIOR to expiration date!  :(

*So Delicious contacted me and apologized, explaining that a broken seal could've caused the mold, and they offered me a free coupon.  But, I don't use coupons.
